Woodyard Training Clinics

Helpful sessions for horses and riders in small groups with Oonagh Meyer BHSI (Reg'd), BHS Examiner, held at Plumpton College. Types of clinic held are subject to demand eg the jumping and dressage clinics can be held on the same day or, subject to numbers, Combined Training sessions can also be arranged.

At Plumpton College, Nr Lewes, East Sussex, BN7 3AE

Held in small groups in the indoor arena at Plumpton College, each session will last approx 1 hours (depending on horse and rider fitness!)

Horse and rider combinations will be grouped accordingly based upon information provided prior to the clinic date.

With the exception of the XC clinics, the other clinics are normally held on each date, (subject to demand), so just decide on the clinic type, and then contact Oonagh on 07887 997665 or email her at oonagh@woodyardtraining.com to check dates and availability.

Dressage Clinics

Two levels available and both designed to be fun and informative with emphasis upon improvement of both horse and rider. In addition, these sessions have proved to be a useful introducotry session for horses and riders planning to compete in the following months.

Level One

So... you have "dipped your toe in the water" but want to gain higher scores in your tests?

Or... you want to enter a competition but are uncertain how to ride a test or what you should be doing?

If this is the case then this clinic is for you!

Choosing a suitable test for you and your horse

Rider positional corrections

Working towards establishing the basic paces

Understanding the 'terminology' and some key phrases

Riding accurate movements and how to gain extra marks!

Level Two

Improving previous tests and moving up the grades!

Rider accuracy and positinal corrections

Establishing and maintaining the 'outline' in all paces

Basic lateral work - working towards collection, variations within the gait, encouraging lengthening, etc

Building upon the 'Scales of Training'

Jumping Clinics

'Jump for Fun'

A confidence building session aimed at riders (and horses!) who are either inexperienced at jumping or 'rusty' combinations returning to jumping and simply in need of a gentle reintroduction! Riders must be secure and established in their basic flatwork position.

'See-a-Stride'

A gymnastic grid session aimed at horses and riders who are ready to improve their jumping technique and athleticism. Session will focus is upon improvement of rhythm, tempo and balance through the differing stages of jumping. Riders must be established in their basic flatwork and jumping position.

X-Country Clinics

A session designed to build upon accuracy skills whilst improving both horse and rider technique, confidence and security. This clinic assists in preparation for both schooling XC and competition riding through the use of indoor simulated fences. It offers a useful introductory session and good preparation for horses and riders planning to compete in the following months. Riders must be secure and established in their basic flatwork and jumping position.

Horse Agility (Le Trec) Practice

Whether the aim is to compete, improve current results, or simply to gain better understanding of the link between horse and rider perceptions related to performance and behaviour, in small groups, these clinics are designed to encourage and develop horse and rider at a range of levels and ages. From 'rusty riders' and 'youngsters' wishing to improve confidence and control through to combinations aiming to focus upon specific aspects of competitive training, these clinics offer the opportunity to share ideas and experiences.
